Requirements for the safety of all our guests
Kennel boarding:
As we deal with rescues / rescue dogs along with privately owned dogs, please do not leave your inquiry for availability to the last minute. As a dog owner I am mindful of the need to meet the kennel owner and view the establishment. Ensuring the safety and happiness of every dog in our care is paramount.
Preferred criteria for dog's coming into the care of Oatcakes Pet Lodge:
• Preferably sociable, although this is not a necessity; it does make your dogs stay more comfortable. All dog's, unless requested are kenneled separately and exercised individually on lead & or harness.
* ALL dog's must have a collar, for safety, unless there is a medical or specific reason that this is not possible
• Fully vaccinated - evidence will be requested at booking stage & a copy of the record will be retained
• *Vaccinated against the kennel cough - owner's preference - please see below.
• Flea treated and wormed
• Microchipped - details will be retained by Oatcakes for record purposes only
• Male dogs over the age of 12 months must be castrated. We also cannot take any bitches in season.
• All guests should be in clean, reasonably groomed condition.
Please ensure you advise us as soon as possible of any medical conditions and if there is a requirement to administer medication. Unfortunately due to licensing requirements we cannot administer any injection medications.
* Please note: the kennel cough vaccine does not fully protect against all strains of kennel cough, and the kennel cough itself is not limited to ‘kennels’. It is a highly contagious airborne disease which can be caught by simply walking your dog in the same area that an infected dog walked through hours earlier. It is the owners preference whether to have the vaccination, there must be a minimum of 14 days between vaccination and the start of boarding, as the vaccine is a live vaccine. The vaccine will minimise the risk to the dogs in our care, as with a pack of dogs an airborne disease can spread quickly, however, kennel cough is easily treatable as long as there are no underlying health issues*
